PRINCETON (10/23/10) - Kathleen Sharkey scored three times in the first half to lead the fifth-ranked Princeton field hockey team to a 4-0 shutout of Harvard in Ivy League action on Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium.
Sharkey had Princeton's first three goals in the game, converting off a pass from Rachel Neufeld 15 minutes into the game to put the Tigers ahead. She added two more goals three minutes apart late in the half to reach 26 for the season. The first of the two came on a turnaround backhand shot and the next off a feed from Julia Reinprecht in the middle.
Princeton added a fourth goal early in the second half when Michelle Cesan converted on a corner for her 10th goal of the season. Amanda Bird fed her the ball off a corner and Cesan's blast bounced off the far post and into the Harvard goal.
Princeton outshot Harvard 21-6 in the game and had 10 corners to Harvard's four. Harvard goalkeeper Cynthia Tassopoulos made 10 saves, while Princeton's Jennifer King made two in the second half. Christina Maida did not face a shot in the opening half.
Princeton is now 11-3 overall and 5-0 atop the Ivy League standings. The Tigers visit 11th-ranked Penn State Sunday afternoon in their final non-league game of the regular season.
