Oct. 28 TigerCast: Ashley Higginson, Donn Cabral And Jeff Kampersal
October 28, 2010 | General, Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country, Women's Ice Hockey
Two cross country standouts in Ashley Higginson and Donn Cabral join women's hockey head coach Jeff Kampersal for another edition of TigerCast.
Both Higginson and Cabral will lead their respective teams into the 2010 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, held Friday at Van Cortlandt Park. Higginson is a senior co-captain for the 18th-ranked Princeton women, who will be looking to defend their 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Ivy League titles. Higginson, an NCAA medalist in outdoor track and field, placed fourth at the 2009 Heptagonal championships, which was good enough to defeat every runner in the league not wearing Orange and Black. Higginson talks about the dominant effort of 2009 and why the Heps meet is such a special event in the league.
Cabral, who placed second in the 2010 Outdoor NCAA Championships in the steeplechase, has had a breakout season for the 18th-ranked Tigers. Though he was a Top 10 finisher at the 2009 meet, Cabral has moved to another level of running since the track seasons, and he talks about his development. He also talks about the importance of avenging a narrow one-point loss to Columbia at the 2009 championship meet.
Kampersal will guide the women's hockey team into its first ECAC home weekend, beginning Friday at 7 against Colgate. Princeton will also take on the second-ranked Cornell Big Red, the 2010 NCAA finalist, Saturday at 4. Kampersal gives a preview of his team and talks about some areas of improvement he looks for after two losses last weekend.
