Tuesday Field Hockey Notes: Reinprecht Honored, Tigers Up to Third in Poll

Reinprecht had four goals and an assist in three games last week to lead the team with nine points. On Tuesday against top-ranked Maryland, Reinprecht scored Princeton's first and second goals to build a 2-0 first-half lead. She also assisted on Kathleen Sharkey's goal in an eventual 4-2 win. Reinprecht then added goals in Princeton's win on Friday at Columbia and loss on Sunday to 14th-ranked American.
The award is the third of Reinprecht's career at Princeton. The junior also earned a Player of the Week nod once as a freshman and once as a sophomore. Reinprecht is the second Tiger to earn a Player of the Week award this season, joining Sharkey's honor on Sept. 14

In the Polls
Princeton climbed to third in the latest Kookaburra / NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. The Tigers received five first-place votes in the poll and rank third behind North Carolina and Maryland. Princeton, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland all entered last week undefeated, but now only North Carolina remains as Princeton beat Maryland, Maryland beat Virginia and the Tigers fell to American, which climbed to 10th following the win. National Stats
Princeton continues to lead the nation in scoring with an average of 5.11 goals per game. The Tigers also have the fourth-best goals-against average in the country, surrendering only a goal per game.
Individually, Sharkey leads the nation with 4.78 points per game and 2.11 goals per game. Katie Reinprecht and Michelle Cesan rank 23rd in points per game, and are also ranked in the Top 50 in goals per game, along with Molly Goodman. Freshman goalkeeper Christina Maida ranks second in goals-against average (0.60) and seventh in save percentage (0.810).
Coming Up
This week Princeton will take on a pair of teams ranked in the Top 10 of the poll. Princeton visits fourth-ranked Virginia on Friday night and returns home to host eighth-ranked Louisville on Sunday afternoon.
