Volleyball Faces Huge Home Ivy Weekend Against Brown, Yale
October 07, 2010 | Women's Volleyball
Regardless of last weekend's result at The Palestra, this was going to be an important home weekend for the Princeton women's volleyball team. But by rallying from an 0-2 hole against the defending Ivy champs, Princeton now has the opportunity to set the pace in league play.
Princeton will host both Brown and Yale in its first full weekend of Ivy League play. The Tigers (6-6, 1-0) will begin with a 7 p.m. match against Brown (6-8, 0-2) on Friday and will conclude the weekend Saturday at 4 p.m. against Yale (8-5, 2-0).
The Tigers were led last week by sophomore outside Lydia Rudnick, whose performance at Penn would earn her Ivy League Player of the Week honors. Rudnick recorded a double-double with 24 kills and a .300 attack percentage, and she put the finishing touches on the Quakers with a late block and two final kills in the fifth set. Rudnick leads the Ivy League with 4.12 kills per set and leads the team with a .243 attack percentage.
Junior Cathryn Quinn was also impressive against Penn; she is a three-year starter who is averaging 2.3 kills and .86 blocks per set. Both Quinn and sophomore Jennifer Palmquist have recorded more than 100 points on the season.
Brown is led by Katrina Post and Emma Pastore, both of whom are averaging just below 2.5 kills per set. Brown is winless in league play, though its two losses came against a Yale team that has lost only four Ivy matches in the last two years.
The Bulldogs, who will open their weekend at reigning Ivy champ Penn, have gotten 3.5 kills per set from Bridget Hearst and just under 10 assists per set from Kendall Polan. Yale has two players with at least four digs per set, including Kelly Ozurovich, who averages a team-best 5.4 per set.
