Volleyball Trio Earns All-Ivy Honors; Rudnick, Quinn Make First Team
November 19, 2010 | Women's Volleyball
Juniors Cathryn Quinn and Hillary Ford joined sophomore Lydia Rudnick on the 2010 All-Ivy League women's volleyball team after leading Princeton to a third-place finish in league play.
Rudnick was one of two unanimous first-team All-Ivy selections. She averaged 4.31 kills per set, which was more than half a kill better than anybody in league play. She had double-digit kills in 21 of 25 matches and had at least 10 digs in 12 matches. Her 2.9 digs per set was third best at Princeton, and her 4.77 points per set was best in the league by more than .6 of a point.
Rudnick was consistently strong throughout the season, but she had a number of memorable performances. The three-time Ivy League Player of the Week recorded 32 kills and 16 digs in a 3-2 comeback win over Harvard, and she recorded 34 kills and 25 digs in a 3-2 loss at Columbia. She had at least 20 kills in eight matches, and she averaged 23.5 in two matches against Ivy co-champion Penn.
Quinn, a three-year starter, made her debut on the first team after averaging 2.84 kills and .9 blocks per set this season. Her block total ranked eighth best in the Ivy League, and she had at least six blocks in seven different matches. She had at least 10 kills in each of her last eight matches and in 14 of 25 overall, and she had a career-best 23 kills and eight blocks in a late-season match at Harvard.
Ford earned honorable mention during a season filled with talented Ivy League liberos. She averaged 3.98 digs per set, seventh-best in the Ivy League, and her 22 service aces led Princeton and ranked ninth in the league. Ford had double-digit digs in 15 of Princeton's last 16 matches, though she saved her best for last; she recorded a career-high 30 digs in the season finale against Penn.
