Merlone Named Southern Most Valuable Player; Five Tigers Earn League Honors

Merlone becomes Princeton's sixth Southern MVP and its first since Brendan Colgan in 2008. Merlone also earned his second first-team All-Southern nod as he was on the team in 2008. Senior Matt Hale and sophomore Tommy Donahue joined him on the first team. It is the fifth time that Princeton has had three first-team selections most recently happening in 2008, but also occurring in 1999, 2000 and 2003.
Chris Cottrell was the lone Tiger on the second team as Princeton placed a total of four players on the All-Southern teams. In addition to those honors, Buchbinder was named the Division's top rookie and is Princeton's first Southern Rookie of the Year.
Princeton will continue its quest for an Eastern title on Saturday afternoon when it takes on Navy in the Eastern semifinals.
