Rasheed Records Double-Double as Princeton Ends Lehigh's 33-Game Streak

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (11/21/10) - Lehigh's 33-game home winning streak is over. The Princeton women's basketball team delivered the Mountain Hawks their first loss at Stabler Arena since the 2007-08 season with a 69-52 game.
Four players were in double digits, led by sophomore Niveen Rasheed's first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. She added four steals and four assists. Juniors Devona Allgood and Laura Johnson and senior Addie Micir had 12 points apiece. Allgood added six rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks. Sophomore Lauren Polansky chipped in six rebounds, two steals and two points, junior Lauren Edwards had nine points, six rebounds and three assists.
Princeton took a seven-point lead 9-2 five minutes into the game, but an 8-0 Lehigh run over the next two minutes gave the Mountain Hawks a one-point lead, 10-9.
The teams would exchange leads five times over the next six minutes before a Laura Johnson three-pointer at 7:31 gave Princeton a two-point lead it wouldn't relinquish, sending the Tigers on a 20-5 run over the next five minutes.
Down by 14, 38-24, Lehigh would shoot 4-for-4 from the line and wasn't allowed a field goal for the final 3:41, to close out the half with a 10-point deficit on its home court.
The Tigers continued to build on their lead with freshman Nicole Hung giving Princeton a 20-point edge on a jumper at 7:34. Lehigh went on an 8-0 run over the next 1:23 to get within 14, 61-47, with just under six minutes to play. It would be as close as the Mountain Hawks would get as Princeton would close out the half on an 8-5 run for the 69-52 final score.
Of Lehigh's nine baskets from the field in the second half, five were three-pointers.
The Hun School product Emily Gratch paced the Mountain Hawks with 14 points, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field. She added three steals and three blocks. Leading scorer Erica Prosser added 11 points, five rebounds and a team-high seven assists. Leading the team under the basket was Courtney Dentler who pulled down seven boards, while adding seven points and a team-best three blocks. Lehigh shot 41.3 percent from the floor (19-46), 60 percent from the line and 36.4 percent from behind the arc.
Princeton shot 43.3 percent from the floor (29-67), 50 percent from long range and 44.4 percent from the free-throw line. The Tigers outrebounded the opponent 43-28.
The Tigers improve to 2-1 on the season and will play in the Vanderbilt Tournament over Thanksgiving break to continue their five-game road swing. First up Princeton will meet with USC on Friday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m.
