Weber and Butler Earn ECAC Weekly Awards Following Sweep of Syracuse
December 14, 2010 | Women's Ice Hockey
Weber backstopped Princeton to both wins, stopping a total of 37 of the 39 shots she faced as the Tigers swept two games from Syracuse. On Friday, she made 23 saves and allowed just two goals; both on the power play late in the third period after her team had opened a 4-0 lead. A day later, she stopped all 14 shots she faced to blank the Orange for her second shutout of the season. Weber is now 4-6-1 overall with a 2.12 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. It is the first Goaltender of the Week honor for Weber.
Butler was one of two Tigers to score three goals in the weekend sweep of Syracuse. In Friday's 4-2 win, Butler opened the scoring for Princeton and then scored the team's fourth goal. A day later, she netted Princeton's third goal in a 5-0 win. She is now tied with junior co-captain Paula Romanchuk for the team-lead in goals with six. It is Butler's second Rookie of the Week honor. She was also recognized following Princeton's sweep of Rensselaer and Union in early November.
Weber, Butler and the Tigers finished the first part of the season on a three-game win streak that included a pair of shutouts over Brown and Syracuse. Princeton is currently 6-10-1 overall and 4-6-1 in ECAC Hockey entering the Holiday Break. Princeton is back in action on Dec. 31 at 12 noon when sixth-ranked Boston College visits Hobey Baker Rink.
