Women's Track Earns No. 5 Regional Ranking

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/3/10) - The Princeton women's track and field team is ranked No. 5 in the Mid-Atlantic Region it was announced in the first Regional Team Index released by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday, Feb. 1.
Penn State is ranked No. 1 in the region, followed by Georgetown, West Virginia and Villanova. The final two teams to comprise the top-7 regionally are Seton Hall and Pittsburgh.
Ten members of the team are ranked in the top 10 in the region in their respective events. Senior Reilly Kiernan ranks first in the 5000-meter run and freshman Tory Worthen is first in the pole vault. The squad's distance medley relay is ranked second in the region, while junior Sarah Cummings is third in the 5000 and classmate Thanithia Billings takes third in the shot put.
The Regional Team Index uses data provided by Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) for only the 2010 indoor season and is a reflection of a team's all-around strength. The regional team index is scored using the current national-team ranking formula as if it were separate regional championships across the country.
The Tigers will compete at the Penn State Sykes-Sabock Challenge and at the New Balance Meet at The Armory this weekend, Feb. 5-6.
