ANNAPOLIS, Md. (3/21/10) - The Princeton baseball team rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth inning to come from behind and defeat Navy 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at Max Bishop Stadium. Princeton trailed 3-2 entering the final inning, but Brandon Englert's two-out bases-loaded single pushed Princeton ahead.
The Tigers built a 2-0 lead in the game with single runs in the third and fourth innings. In the third, Matt Connor scored on a groundout after doubling with one out and an inning later Noel Gonzales-Luna scored on a groundout.
Zak Hermans pitched six shutout innings before Navy got to him with three runs in the seventh inning. Matthew Curley plated two in the inning with a single and Michael Speciale singled in a run off of Kevin Link, who had come in to relieve Hermans.
Princeton trailed by the run until taking advantage of a Navy error in its final at-bat to rally for the win. With one out, Sam Mulroy drew a walk. Navy recorded the next out and looked to have the third and final out on a Jon Broscious groundball. Navy tried for the out at second, but the ball was thrown away and the Tigers wound up with runners on the corners and two outs. A walk loaded the bases and the ying and go-ahead runs came on Englert's single.
Link got the final out of the seventh and then tossed two scoreless innings to secure the win. In the bottom of the ninth, Navy put two on with two outs with a single and catcher's interference, but Link got Speciale to fly out to center field for the final out of the game.
Princeton is now 4-10 overall after splitting its four-game series at Navy. The Tigers are back in action next weekend with a four-game series at Santa Clara.
