Baseball Falls in Opener at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (3/26/10) - The Princeton baseball team dropped the opener of a four-game series at Santa Clara 19-4 on Friday night at Stephen Shott Stadium.
Princeton fell behind as the Broncos scored five runs over the first two innings. Princeton got a run back in the third when Noel Gonzales-Luna plated Tom Boggiano with a single, but Santa Clara built its lead with 10 runs over the middle three innings.
Princeton would add two runs in the fifth and one in eighth in the loss. Boggiano led the Tigers with two hits and scored runs following both. Gonzales-Luna drove in two while Sam Mulroy drove in one with a sac fly and Brandon Englert singled in the final Tiger run.
Dan Barnes took the loss, surrendering nine runs, six earned, in three and two-thirds. Nate Garcia allowed three runs in six innings, while fanning 13 Tigers for the win.
The teams continue the four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
