Billings and Moran Win Twice as Princeton Takes Second in PYP Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/10/10) - The Princeton women's track team was six points shy of a first-place at the annual PYP Meet on Saturday, April 10 at Weaver Stadium. Penn won the meet with 89 points, while Princeton had 83 and Yale scored 25.
Junior Thanithia Billings and sophomore Eileen Moran were double winners on the afternoon.
Sophomore Eileen Moran won both the 100 and 200. Moran sprinted to an 11.85 in the 100 and a 24.47, a personal best, in the 200.
Billings won the shot put with a throw of 14.07, dispatching the competition as the next thrower would reach just 12.68. She also won the discus with a mark of 42.31, besting the other throwers by nearly four meters. Billings was also part of the Tigers' sweep in the hammer throw, taking second place with a throw of 50.10 meters. Junior Emma Ruggiero won the event with a throw of 57.71 crushing her personal best of 51.03. Sophomore Alyssa Pehmoeller also had a personal-best mark as she took third at 47.53. Ruggiero went on to throw the javelin to 29.40 for third place.
In the jumps, juniors Tiffany Liu and Bianca Williams were both third in their respective events. Liu reached 5.40 meters in the long jump, while Williams reached 11.47 in the triple. In the high jump, junior KC Wade placed second and freshman Megan Skalbeck was third as both cleared 1.58.
Junior Ashley Higginson was the only competitor in the steeplechase and clocked in at 10:04.55. She later took second in the 3000 with a time of 9:44.13, behind first-place finisher Sarah Cummings who ran in at 9:38.98.
In the relays, the Tigers were second in the 4x100 and third in the 4x400.
Juniors Bianca Mathabane and Lauren Barber were second and third in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.81 and 15.25, respectively. In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Lauren Lewis placed second with a time of 1:05.67.
Taking third in the 400-meter dash was sophomore Danielle Glaeser who clocked in at 56.18. In the 800, freshman Alexis Mikaelian and junior Libby Bliss were second and third at 2:12.98 and 2:13.61, with Mikaelian recording a personal best.
Sophomore Alex Banfich took second in the 1500 with a new personal best of 4:24.94, just missing first place by 0.62 seconds.
Princeton hosts the Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend April 12-13 at Weaver Stadium.
