Women's Lightweights Go 1-2 At Stanford Invitational
April 11, 2010 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
The Princeton women's lightweights, co-ranked No. 2 heading into the weekend, fell to No. 1 Wisconsin and fellow No. 2 Stanford in a pair of tight races this past weekend in Redwood Shores, Calif. Princeton did pick up its second win of the season over the weekend with a victory over Sonoma State.
Princeton opened the weekend by finishing in 7:24.7 for a 33.3-second victory over Sonoma State, then challenged defending IRA national champion Wisconsin in the afternoon. It would be a tight race, but the Badgers edged Princeton by less than three seconds. Wisconsin won in 7:19.0, while the Tigers placed second in 7:21.6.
Sunday morning featured another showdown between national powers, and the host Cardinal won the race in 7:04.6, while Princeton placed second in 7:08.7. Head coach Paul Rassam felt that there was still significant potential in his program; with technical sharpening, he believed, this team would be much faster when the postseason arrived.
The Princeton second varsity raced three times over the weekend, losing to Wisconsin, Stanford and the Stanford open novice. All times can be found below.
Princeton will have an opportunity to fine tune its racing over a pair of home weekends coming up, and both feature top rivals for the Tiger lights. Princeton will host Georgetown April 17th and then Radcliffe April 24th.
