#3 Women's Lightweights Top Georgetown For Class of 2006 Cup
April 18, 2010 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
The Tiger varsity eight moved to 3-2 on the season by topping sixth-ranked Georgetown with a winning time of 7:40.9. The Hoyas, who have become one of Princeton's toughest rivals in lightweight rowing, finished in 7:53.6. For Princeton, it was its largest margin of victory over the Hoyas since the start of The Class of 2006 regatta.
"This was a good way for our 1V8 to respond to one or two disappointing moments last week," said head coach Paul Rassam, who has consistently lauded the work ethic within his young program. "It's the type of response you always hope for as a coach. They rowed a very composed and complete race from start to finish. We look forward to trying to build upon this result."
In the overall regatta, Princeton won two of four races. The second varsity finished in 7:59.4, while Georgetown won the race in 7:43.2.
"I am proud of the way our 2V8 is competing out there," Rassam said. "This is a very young boat with some complete novices in it. They raced hard under difficult wind conditions. Coach Taliet Gerretsen is doing a really good job of preparing some of our novices to step into varsity positions when needed."
Both programs split the varsity four competitions. Georgetown won the 3V4 in 9:09.4, while the Princeton 2V4 earned a win in 8:58.9.
Princeton will remain home next weekend to compete in one of the best rivalries in all of lightweight women's rowing. Princeton will take on #4 Radcliffe for The Class of 1999 Cup Saturday morning. Check back with GoPrincetonTigers later this week for a preview of the event and a racing schedule.
