The Princeton heavyweight crew opened the Greg Hughes era with an impressive performance against Georgetown Saturday morning on Lake Carnegie. The Tigers swept all three races as a lead-in to next weekend's regatta for the historic Childs Cup.
The first varsity won its race in 5:40.0, a strong 25+ seconds faster than the Hoyas (6:05.3) in the first race of a beautiful morning regatta, which also included the men's lightweights and women's open squads. The second varsity won in 5:55.1, topping both the Tiger third varsity (5:59.9) and the Georgetown 2V (6:25.3).
The Princeton novice eight had the toughest challenge of the morning, but it managed an impressive victory. Princeton won in 5:50.3, while Georgetown finished just behind in 5:52.4.
The Tigers will head to New York next weekend to try and reclaim the Childs Cup from Columbia in a three-team regatta that will also feature Penn. The Childs Cup is the oldest collegiate trophy in rowing.
