Women's Track Takes Five Events at Sam Howell Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/3/10) - Seventeen universities sent its track & field teams to Princeton this weekend to compete at the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational. The weather couldn't be better at Weaver Stadium with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s.
The women's team had winners in both the shot put and the hammer throw. Junior Thanithia Billings won the shot put throwing to 14.89 meters (48-10.25). Junior Emma Ruggiero won hammer throw reaching 56.22 meters (184-05) and leveling the competition that couldn't break into the 50s. Sophomore Alyssa Pehmoeller finished third in the hammer with a mark of 49.13 (161-02).
Freshman Lauren Tauscher won the pole vault clearing 3.45 (11-03.75) in a jump off with Southern Connecticut State's Teresa Parker. Sophomore Lydia Arias was third in the event at 3.40 (11-01.75).
The relay team of freshman Abidemi Adenikinju, freshman Erin Guty, sophomore Danielle Glaeser and sophomore Eileen Moran won the 4x100. The group clocked in at 46.86, beating out the Rutgers team that came in at 46.94 and eight other squads.
Moran went on to win the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.03 beating out Jamie Walker of Rutgers by 0.08 seconds. Another member of the relay team, Glaeser finished third in the 400 with a time of 56.73.
Junior Bianca Mathabane was third in the 100-meter hurdles getting down the track in 15.05.
Junior Libby Bliss and freshman Alexis Mikaelian went 2-3 in the 800 at 2:11.16 and 2:11.76, respectively.
On Friday night, Princeton hosted the Friday Night Races portion of the Invitational featuring distance races under the lights. Freshman Mel Newbery won the 5000-meter run in a time of 16:35.23, 0.38 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher Elise DeRoo of Colgate.
The Tigers host Penn and Yale next Saturday, April 10.
