13 Head to NCAA East Regional for Men's Track & Field

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/23/10) - Thirteen members of the Princeton men's track & field team will participate in the 2010 NCAA East Regional it was announced by the NCAA on Friday, May 22. Twelve of those student-athletes are competing in the NCAA Outdoors for the first time.
The East Regional will be held at Aggie Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C., on May 27-29.
The start list will be announced on Tuesday, May 25 at 2 p.m.
Only senior Justin Frick has competed in the NCAA Outdoors before, competing in the high jump in 2007 and 2008. Frick has the eighth best mark in the East region clearing 2.18 meters at the Princeton Elite Meet. Joining Frick in the high jump is classmate Ian Fox. Fox reached 2.09 meters in his best jump this season. The pair will compete in the qualifying round on Friday at 5 p.m.
Three members of the team will compete in the throwing events.
First up is junior Craig Pearce in the hammer throw on Thursday at 11 a.m. Pearce ranks 20th in the region with a throw of 61.80 meters at the Sam Howell Invitational.
On Friday at 3 p.m., senior Eric Plummer will tackle the shot put. Plummer ranks 12th in the East region with a season-best throw of 18.30 thrown at the Ivy League Heptagonals.
Junior George Abyad will throw the discus on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Abyad threw 51.26 at the Larry Ellis Invitational, ranking 47th in the region.
Junior Mike Eddy will become the first Tiger in program history to compete in the 400 at the NCAA Outdoors, when the event begins on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Eddy ran a 46.82 at the Walt Disney World Invite in March to rank 31st in the region.
Freshman Russell Dinkins, one of two freshmen competing for the team in the post season, will run in the 800 on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Dinkins recorded a time of 1:49.88 at the Princeton Elite Meet to rank 45th in the region.
Both sophomore Trevor Van Ackeren and freshman Peter Callahan will run the 1500 on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Van Ackeren ranks 23rd in the region with a time of 3:45.29 while Callahan ranks 42nd with a 3:46.54.
Sophomore Donn Cabral and senior Elliot Welder will compete in the steeplechase on Friday at 8:30 p.m. Cabral's time of 8:48.92 ranks him 13th in the region, while Welder is 38th with a time of 9:00.57.
Cabral will take on his second event on Saturday at 8:05 p.m., with the 5000-meter run. He'll be joined by juniors Kyle Soloff and Mark Amirault. Cabral ran a 13:58.24 at the Larry Ellis Invitational ranking him 14th in the East region. Soloff and Amirault rank 27th and 28th with times of 14:04.55 and 14:04.61, respectively.
