Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Welcome 17-Member Recruiting Class

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/25/10) - The Princeton women's cross country and track and field coaches Peter Farrell and Ed Roskiewicz are proud to announce Princeton's 2010 recruiting class.
Coach Farrell is eagerly awaiting the arrival of 17 highly touted recruits. “We bolster some already strong areas but fill in some needs – such as the javelin and discus.”
DISTANCE
The four-time defending Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Champions will be boosted by four long distance runners; Theresa Devine, Clare Gallagher, Marisa Cummings and Katie Skinner.
A native of San Rafael, Calif., Theresa Devine will join the distance corps and the cross country squad. Competing for Marin Catholic in Northern California, Devine is a Footlocker Finalist and ran 10:39.25 in the 3200 at the Sacramento Meet of Champions in May 2010.
A native of Greenwood Village, Colo., Gallagher posted a 5k time of 18:05 at the Colorado State Cross Country Championship in 2008. She also ran the 1600 in 5:06 during her junior year at Cherry Creek High School.
Marisa Cumming from Corona del Mar High School competed in the Nike Cross Nationals and has a three-mile personal best time of 17:18. Last spring at the CIF Southern Section Division Finals she finished the 1600 in 4:58.34. This year Cummings hit 10:34.95 in the 3200. She will join elder sister Sarah, an All-America and cross country team captain.
Katie Skinner from Riverhead, N.Y., recorded a 4:59.46 in the mile this past January and ran the 5k at the New York State Championship in November and posted a time of 17:51.20.
MIDDLE DISTANCE
The middle distance corps will be bolstered by six incoming freshmen, four of which will also join the cross country team. They include: Molly Higgins, Henrietta Miers, Kacie O'Neil and Kristin Smoot.
Higgins should also be a standout in the middle distance group of the track team. The Randolph High School graduate brings the best time in the 800, a mark of 2:11.7 and has also run at 4:58 in the 1600 at the NJAC Conference Championship.
Also having a tremendous time in the 800 is Miers. A native of Bronxville, N.Y., Miers has a personal best of 2:12.56 in the 800.
Kacie O'Neil from Conestoga High in Berwyn, Pa., brings a time of 2:12.59 in the 800. She also runs the 1600 and 400, and has PR's of 5:07.88 and 57.1, respectively, and has competed at the Nike Indoor Nationals.
Smoot from Bernards High in Bernardsville, N.J., who has a PR of 2:14.26 in the 800 and a 58.31 in the 400 set in February at the NJSIAA Group Championships.
Additionally, Brooke Biederman and Caroline Bazinet will join the middle distance group. Biederman from Horace Greeley in Chappaqua, N.Y. She ran a personal best of 1:40.10 in the 600 this past February at the Section I Class A Championships and a 2:21.13 in the 800 at the Westchester County Championships last spring. Out of Choate, Conn., Bazinet has posted a time of 10:35 in the 3k and 18:50 in the 5k.
SPRINTS
Jasmine Blocker and Carrie Vuong join the team as long sprinters specializing in the 400-meter dash. From Manhasset High School, Blocker has a personal best of 56.52 recorded last spring at the Section 8 State Qualifiers and has also run at the Nike Indoor Nationals. Vuong from Cherry Hill East High School brings a personal best of 57.78 reached last week at the Camden County Championships.
Lily Miller from Metairie, La., runs the 100 and 200 and is also a long jumper. She recorded a time of 12.09 in the 100-meter dash at the LHSSA State Championship in 2009, while clocking in at 24.80 in the 200 at the LHSSA State Championship. In the long jump, she has a personal best of 18' 7” set during her sophomore year in 2008.
Beth McKenna from Bishop Guertin High School in New Hampshire, competes in both the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump. She has run a personal best of 15.04 in the hurdles and has cleared 5' 2” in the high jump at the New Hampshire Indoor Track Meet this past January.
JUMPS
Imani Oliver specializes in the triple jump and is the reigning New York state indoor champion in the event with a mark of 39' 1”. Competing at Midwood High School, Oliver has a personal best of 40' 6.25” set in June 2009 at the PSAL City Championship.
Theresa Kennedy from Academy Holy Names in Albany, N.Y., competes in the high, triple and long jump. She boasts a personal best of 5' 7” in the high jump, 17' 7” in the long jump and 37' 10” in the triple jump.
Two pole vaulters also join the team. Samantha Anderson from Plano West Senior High School has a personal best of 12' 4” while Sara Rubin out of Abington, Pa., has cleared 10'.
THROWS
Ashley Vandolah will be a welcome addition as a javelin thrower, an area in which the team needs some help. A 2009 state finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman, Vandolah holds the Choteau High School record in the javelin with a personal best of 138' 10”.
Chelsea Cioffi out of Pitman, N.J., joins the team as a discus thrower. She recently recorded a new personal best of 131' 5” at the Rowan University Open on May 1.
