Both the men's and women's crews from Princeton will be well represented during the 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, scheduled for July 22-25 in Brest, Belarus.
Princeton rowing, which had an extremely impressive 2010 postseason, including varsity eight medals for all four programs and a national championship for the lightweight men, will be represented mostly within the U.S. and Canadian squads, although heavyweight rising sophomore Michael Evans has made the British 8+.
Eight current or past Princeton rowers will wear the Red, White and Blue during the U23 championships; included in that total is four members of the remarkable open crew varsity eight, which placed third at the NCAA Championships and completed a perfect 12-0 regular season. Hendershot, who graduated in 2010 with All-America honors, will stroke the boat, while rising senior Strand will hold the 3-seat. Rising sophomore Nicole Bielawski, one of three freshmen to make a major impact on the 2010 varsity eight, will stroke the women's 4x.
A trio of lightweight men made the U.S. squad, led by a pair of rising seniors who were part of both the 2009 and 2010 national championship crews. Robin Prendes will hold the 2-seat for the 4-, while Christian Klein will stroke the 2-. A third lightweight, rising junior Steven Cutler, will stroke the lightweight 4x. Rising junior Ian Silveira, who stroked the heavyweights to a silver medal at the 2010 EARC Championships, will hold the 2-seat for the men's 4x.
Three Princetonians will compete for Canada this year. Heavyweight rising senior Blake Parsons will compete for the 4+, while two rising seniors for Tiger open crew, Lauren Wilkinson and Ashton Brown, will compete for the 8+.
