Men's Track Earns Five Places on All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS (7/30/10) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the men's 2010 Division I All-Academic Track & Field team. Earning the honors for Princeton are senior Elliot Welder, juniors Mark Amirault and Mike Eddy, sophomore Trevor Van Ackeren and freshman Peter Callahan.
Welder competed in the NCAA Regionals in the steeplechase after qualifying with a time of 9:00.57. He ran the steeplechase in 9:06.43 at the Regional finishing 28th.
Amirault was one of three Tigers that qualified for the East Regional in the 5000 meters. Amirault had a season best time of 14:04.61 and placed 29th at the Regional with a time of 14:29.74
Eddy, Van Ackeren and Callahan were members of the the distance medley relay that ran a 9:37.30 during the regular indoor season which met the provisional qualifying time. Eddy's time of 46.82 in the 400 qualified him for the outdoor East Regional where he ran a 47.43.
Van Ackeren posted a qualifying time of 3:45.29 in the 1500 meters. He finished 14th in the preliminary run at the East Regional with a 3:48.78 and advanced to the semifinals where he clocked in a 3:51.91, a 15th place finish, that advanced him to the Championships in Oregon. He placed 21st in the prelim at the NCAA Championships at 3:51.66.
Callahan also qualified for the 1500 meters with a personal best of 3:46.54 but did not compete at Regionals.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Divison I indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective events.
