Sharkey Named Ivy League Field Hockey Player of the Week
September 14, 2010 | Field Hockey
Sharkey started the weekend with a record-setting performance on Friday at Richmond, scoring six goals in a 7-1 Princeton win. The six-goal performance was the most by any player in Division I this season and also set Princeton records for goals and points in a single game, topping the previous bests of four and nine, respectively. In the win, Sharkey scored Princeton's first three and last three goals.
Two days later, Sharkey, the top goal and point scorer in the nation, had a hand in two of Princeton's three goals. She scored her 10th of the season on a direct corner to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead and then had her shot redirected by Katherine Cape to assist on the team's third goal.
The honor is the fourth in Sharkey's career. She was the League's Player of the Week three times last season and was the League's Top Rookie twice as a freshman.
Sharkey and her Princeton teammates play twice this weekend, hosting Dartmouth and Syracuse at Class of '52 Stadium. Friday's game with Dartmouth features the two highest scoring offenses in the nation, while Sunday's contest with Syracuse pits Princeton against the team it has faced in the NCAA quarterfinals in each of the past two seasons.
