Volleyball Makes 2010 Home Debut Wednesday Against Temple
September 21, 2010 | Women's Volleyball
After three season-opening tournaments, including a weekend with the reigning NCAA champions, the Princeton women's volleyball team will play its final preparation match before the Ivy League season begins. That match, a Wednesday night showdown with Temple, will also mark the home debut for the Tigers.
Princeton is 4-6 on the season, although three of those losses came last weekend at University Park, where the Tigers took on the likes of Penn State, St. John's and George Washington. Sophomore Jennifer Palmquist was selected to the all-tournament team and is one of the impressive young players to come out of tournament play. She ranks second on the team with 2.5 kills per set while playing on the right side, while classmate Lydia Rudnick leads Princeton with 4.0 kills per set. Rudnick ranks second in the league in kills/set, less than .1 behind Dartmouth's Madeline Baird.
Junior Cathryn Quinn, the most experienced player on the roster, is the only player to start all 10 matches for the Tigers and leads the team with .81 blocks per set. She is Princeton's only player in the Top 10 in the Ivy rankings in that category.
Speaking of the Ivy League, Princeton will soon jump into Ivy play, and it won't do so on the shallow end of the pool. The Tigers will play each of the last two Ivy champions within the first two weekends, including a league-opening match at Penn Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
Fellow Philadelphia school Temple comes into Wednesday's match with a 2-10 record, including an early-season 3-0 loss at Penn. The Owls are led by Collin Wallace, who averages 2.4 kills per set.
