PRINCETON, N.J. (10/26/11) - The Princeton women's hockey team gets the ECAC Hockey season underway when it travels to Union on Friday, Oct. 28 and RPI on Saturday, Oct. 29. Both games begin at 3 p.m.
Both games will be Web streamed for a fee of $5.95 for the Union game and $8 for the RPI game. Live stats will be available free of charge.
Princeton is 1-1 on the season after a 5-3 win over No. 8 Northeastern and 3-1 loss to Niagara. The Tigers top line of sophomores Sally Butler, Olivia Mucha and Denna Laing have scored five of the team's six goals and have combined for 12 points, 80% of the team's point production. Senior netminder Rachel Weber played in both games and has an .889 save percentage and a 3.08 goals against average.Princeton is undefeated in its series with Union, 16-0. The meetings have been tighter lately, as Princeton took a 3-2 overtime win at Schenectady last November and a 3-1 game at Baker Rink in February.
Union played its first game nearly one month ago on Sept. 30 at Minnesota. The Dutchwomen are 2-5 with wins over Sacred Heart, their only home game of the year, and Syracuse. Freshman Bryanne Panchuk leads the team in scoring with six points on two goals and four assists. Junior Rhianna Kurio, freshman Christine Valente, senior Lauren Hoffman and junior Jeannie Sabourin all have five points. Union has split goaltending duties between freshmen Shenae Lundberg and junior Alana Marcinko. Marcinko has the better numbers with a .917 save percentage and a 2.56 GAA in 164 minutes. Lundberg has played 258 minutes and has a .864 save percentage and a 4.41 GAA.
Princeton owns a 6-4-2 edge over RPI in the series and is 3-1-1 when playing at Houston Fieldhouse. The Tigers won both meetings last year taking a 2-1 game on the road and a 4-2 game at home.
RPI is looking to end a four-game losing streak after starting the season 2-0-2. The Engineers are coming off of back-to-back losses to Robert Morris at home to enter the weekend 2-4-2. Senior Alisa Harrison has four goals and three assists for seven points. Sophomore Jordan Smelker has six points on two goals and team-high four helpers. Senior Laura Guillemetter has contributed two goals and three assists. RPI is utilizing two freshmen netminders, Brianna Piper and Kelly O'Brien. O'Brien has a 2-2 record with a .915 save percentage and a 1.77 GAA, while Piper is 0-2-2 with an .874 save percentage and a 3.08 GAA.
