Princeton Squash Teams End 2011 Portion Of Season With Sweeps Of G.W.

The Princeton squash teams closed the 2011 portions of their seasons in dominating style Saturday, sweeping every game in both the men's and women's matches for matching 9-0 victories over George Washington.
The men improved to 5-0 on the season with the sweep, which included wins for senior Chris Callis (No. 2) and Clay Blackiston (No. 4). Junior Todd Harrity ran his collegiate win streak to 25 with a win over a tough Islam El-Fiky at the No. 1 spot.
The Tigers are now off until January, but they will need to be at their best immediately. They open Jan. 8 at Rochester, which earned a regular-season home win over Princeton two years ago and nearly knocked off the Tigers in the third-place match last postseason. One week later, Princeton will head to New England for road matches against both Dartmouth and Harvard; the Crimson will be one of the top teams vying for the Ivy League and national team titles.
The women moved to 4-1 on the season with their 9-0 win over George Washington. Of the 27 individual games played, Princeton won 21 of them by at least an 11-3 margin. Junior Casey Cortes looked very strong at No. 9, dropping only one point in her victory over Charlotte Merison.
Princeton will resume its season the weekend of Jan. 14-15 at Dartmouth and Harvard. The match at Harvard will serve as an early test in two ways; not only will the Crimson be one of the top seeds in the national team championships, but Harvard will serve as the Howe Cup host in February.
