DURHAM — Former St. Thomas Aquinas High School hockey standout Danielle DiCesare had played games at the Whittemore Center before she embarked on her college career, but the arena never seemed as large as it did on Saturday when her Princeton Tigers women's team played against the University of New Hampshire.
"It's bigger than I remember," DiCesare said with a laugh. "We play on a really small rink at Princeton. Coming out here, it's a different game. But it was a lot of fun."
DiCesare, who grew up in York, Maine, graduated from St. Thomas in 2008 after a distinguished career with the Saints' boys team. Regarded as one of the top female hockey players in the state when she played (the Saints did not have an officially sanctioned girls team until her senior year, but she remained on the boys team), DiCesare was well-known for her ability to more than keep up with and take big hits from male players.
