Men's Track & Field Seeks Seventh Straight HYP Title on Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/8/11) - The Princeton men's track & field team will compete at the annual HYP Meet on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Yale.

The Tigers are on six-year win streak, since resuming the HYP in 2005. Last year Princeton won with 105 points with Harvard second with 48 points and Yale third with 27.
Princeton won 13 of the 17 events last year, including: 60, 200, 400, 800, mile, 3000, hurdles, 4x4, 4x8, high jump, pole vault, shot put and weight throw. Yale won the 500 and 1000 and Harvard earned wins in the long and triple jumps.
Returning winners include Craig Pearce in the weight throw. On his first competition of the season, he threw to 19.22 meters, two meters further than the second place throw. David Slovenski won the pole vault clearing 5.05 meters. On the track Peter Callahan took first in the mile with a time of 4:12.60. Kyle Soloff won the 3000, beating out 23 other competitors in one of the most highly participated events of the day, clocking in at 8:24.81. Ivan Charbonneau was the only runner to complete the 60-meter dash in less than seven seconds, clocking in at 6.93. Also earning first-place finishes were Mike Eddy in the 400 with a time of 48.61, Russell Dinkins in the 800 at 1:52.43 and Adam Thayer in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.58. Both relay teams also posted victories.

For the second straight week, the Princeton men's track & field team is ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic region. Penn State remains first. Navy is third, followed by Villanova and Georgetown.
Princeton has three marks that are top-40 in the NCAA. Austin Hollimon ranks 13th in the 400, running 46.47. The 4x400 relay of Tom Hopkins, Russell Dinkins, Mike Eddy and Hollimon is now 21st after running an Ivy League record 3:09.35 at Sykes & Sabock last weekend. Freshman Damon McLean is 35th in the NCAA in the triple jump with a mark 15.49 meters.Tigers who have the top 5 marks in the region are held by:
