Softball Rallies to Defeat George Washington 7-4
March 18, 2011 | Softball
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A four-run fifth inning was the catalyst for the Princeton softball team in a 7-4 win Thursday afternoon at George Washington, the Tigers' third in a row.
Princeton trailed 4-2 after three innings but re-took the lead by getting three hits and a walk while also benefitting from a fielding error to reach another runner to go ahead 5-4 in the fourth. Candy Button, who was 3 for 4 on the day, had the first of the three hits in the frame.
Alex Peyton's RBI single in the sixth, followed by another run-scoring knock from Maddie Cousens in the seventh, put the game away for Princeton.
Michelle Tolfa started and finished the game for Princeton in the circle, getting into the third inning before being lifted for Liza Kuhn (1-1), who picked up the win. Tolfa re-entered in the sixth inning to pick up the save.
The win is the third straight for Princeton, which improved to 4-7 on the season a day after sweeping a twinbill from Georgetown. George Washington dropped to 7-9. The Tigers will stay in the D.C. area to play in Maryland's tournament Friday through Sunday against Hampton, Maryland, Villanova and Utah.
