Women's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Disney World

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (3/22/10) - The Princeton women's track and field team spent spring break in Orlando training as the 2011 outdoor season got underway. The Tigers competed at the Walt Disney World Invitational on March 18-19.
Ten Tigers ran the 10,000 with senior Ashley Higginson and junior Alex Banfich recorded new PRs. Banfich won the race at 36:45.91, followed by Higginson at 36:45.92. Senior Sarah Cummings was also in the lead pack to take third at 36:45.93. Sophomores Alexis Mikaelian and Mel Newbery finished as the fourth and fifth runners clocking in at 37:12.
Seniors Emma Ruggiero and Thanithia Billings recorded new personal bests in the hammer throw. Ruggiero won the event throwing to 54.04 meters while Billings was second at 47.77. Billings was the top collegiate discus thrower, placing second overall throwing to 39.95. Freshmam Chelsea Cioffi was fifth with a throw of 36.36.
In the triple jump, freshman Imani Oliver posted a victory. She jumped to 11.97 meters. Seniors Bianca Williams and Tiffany Liu placed third and fourth at 11.31 and 11.29, respectively.
Freshman Carrie Vuong and sophomore Joie Hand ran the 400-meter hurdles for the first time and placed second and third, respectively. Vuong ran 1:03.78 and Hand 1:04.26.
Princeton ran in four relays, the 4x100, 4x200, 4x1500 and the Sprint Medley.
Abidemi Adenikinju, Erin Guty, Danielle Glaeser and Eileen Moran ran 47.81 in the 4x100. Jasmine Blocker, Lily Miller, Moran and Guty finished the 4x200 in 1:41.38. The 4x1500 of Banfich, Greta Feldman, Clare Gallagher, Molly Higgins posted a time of 18:50.36. In the sprint medley Blocker, Moran, Hand, Melissa Zajdel ran 4:04.42.
Princeton will compete at the Monmouth Invitational on March 25-26.
