BATON ROUGE, La. (3/4/11) - The Princeton baseball team dropped its season opener at seventh-ranked LSU 8-2 on Friday night at Alex Box Stadium in front of a crowd of 9,381. Freshman Mike Ford drove in both Princeton runs with a two-run single in the third inning.
Princeton fell behind in the game when LSU put six runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. The hosts strung together five hits and took advantage of two Princeton errors to play six runs, of which five were unearned. The big hits in the inning were a three-run double from Trey Watkins and a two-run homer from Raph Rhymes.
Princeton got two of the runs back in the third inning on Ford's two-run single that plated Tom Boggiano and John Mishu. Boggiano reached base when a pitch hit him and Mishu walked. LSY added single runs in the third and eighth innings.
Princeton had three hits in the loss as Nate Baird and Sam Mulroy added singles. LSU had nine hits as it improved to a perfect 10-0 this season.
Matt Bowman took the loss for the Tigers after allowing seven runs, only one that was earned, in three innings of work.
