No. 1 Women's Lights Look To Continue Momentum In Lone Home Regatta
April 01, 2011 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
Head coach Paul Rassam certainly couldn't have asked for a better week to begin his sixth season at Princeton. His lightweight women headed to California and knocked off reigning EAWRC champion Wisconsin and IRA national champion Stanford in less than 24 hours. Days later, his team was unanimously ranked No. 1 in the first USRowing national poll.
Rassam was quick to point out after last weekend that his team still has a long way to go, and that finishing first at the end of the season is the ultimate goal. He hopes that progression will continue this weekend, as Princeton competes for the only time on its home course against both No. 6 Bucknell and No. 7 MIT.
Still, there was reason to feel good about what the team accomplished last weekend. Princeton won all three of its races, including a season-opening race against St. Mary's, by at least 10 seconds. Those wins follow the Tigers' best postseason in years, when they earned medals in both the 2010 EAWRC and IRA national championships.
Bucknell and MIT will both be making their season debuts this weekend. The Tiger women will be off next weekend before taking on top Eastern rivals Georgetown (April 16) and Radcliffe (April 23) in key races later this month.
