Women's Lightweights Aim To Complete Perfect Season Against Georgetown
April 28, 2011 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
The top-ranked Princeton women's lightweight crew didn't expect to have one more home race in the 2011 season, but rough waters on the Potomac River has given the Tigers the opportunity to cap a perfect season with a home win over Georgetown for The Class of 2006 Cup.
Princeton is 7-0 on the season and received each of the six first-place votes in the latest national poll. Georgetown is currently fifth, just below a Radcliffe crew Princeton defeated last weekend to win The Class of 1999 Cup.
The Tigers got off to a terrific start this season, beating both Eastern champion Wisconsin and national champion Stanford during their season-opening weekend in California. Princeton, the unanimous No. 1 team in the country, is currently 7-0 overall. The Princeton 2V has also been strong this season, going 4-2. That boat will look to bounce back from a loss last weekend and head into the May 15 EAWRC Championships with some positive momentum.
Princeton has never lost The Class of 2006 Cup to Georgetown, and it defeated the Hoyas three times last season. Following the regular season victory, Princeton topped Georgetown in both the EAWRC and IRA national championship grand finals.
