Men's Track & Field Gets Three Top-10 Finishes at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA (4/29/11) - The Princeton men's track & field team competed in eight events at the Penn Relays on Friday, April 29 at Franklin Field. Highlighting the afternoon was three top-10 finishes.
Senior Derek Hynes was second in the Pole Vault Eastern as he cleared 4.75 meters (15-7). It was the best mark in the pole vault of the afternoon, but Hynes finished second based on the pass/fail in each round.
Senior George Abyad placed fourth in the Discus College. He threw to 51.82 meters (170-00). It was his second-best throw of the season.
Also in the throws, senior Craig Pearce earned a fifth-place finish in the Hammer Throw Championship. Pearce threw to a distance of 58.73 (192-8) in the final field event of the day.
The 4x400 relay moved from the Heptagonal to the regular 4x400 heats to face competition outside of the Ivy League. The team of Mike Eddy, Russell Dinkins, Top Hopkins and Austin Hollimon got the baton around in 3:11.89 to finished 14th out of 82. The relay was fifth in heat 1 and based on it's finish (9-16) will move on the IC4A Final on Saturday at 5:50 p.m.
In addition, the team ran in two events late last night. Following a 1.5-hour delay the men's distance races were pushed back until after 11 p.m. Despite the time of day, freshman Jonathan Vitez ran 14:29.53 to finish fourth out of 28th in the 5,000m College race.
The Tigers will resume action at the Penn Relays tomorrow, April 30 at 9 a.m., with the triple jump.
