The Class of 1975 Cup: Harvard and Cornell

Open Women Move To 6-0, Retain Class Of 1975 Cup With Win Over Ivy Pair
April 09, 2011 | Women's Rowing - Open
The Princeton open women, ranked No. 1 in the latest national rankings, improved to 6-0 on the season with a first varsity victory over both Cornell and Harvard Saturday morning on the Charles River. Princeton, which will take on defending Ivy champion Yale next weekend, won three of five races in the regatta.
Princeton, which has now won 20 consecutive regular season dual races, won its first varsity showdown in 6:36.1, more than nine seconds faster than the second-place Cornell Big Red (6:46.1). Harvard, the host school, finished third in 6:48.1. The win is all the more impressive considering Cornell is coming off an upset of Yale last weekend; that moved Cornell into the Top 15, while Harvard remained a Top 20 program.
The Tiger 2V also remained undefeated, sweeping Harvard and Cornell in 6:55.4. The Tigers also won by more than nine seconds, although Harvard was the boat which finished second in this race.
Princeton did suffer its first loss of the season for any of its NCAA Championship boats. The varsity four moved to 5-1 on the season after a narrow loss to the Big Red. Cornell won in 7:50.3, just ahead of Princeton's time of 7:51.4. Both were well ahead of Harvard, which took third in 8:10.3.
Princeton split its other two races during the morning regatta. It won its third varsity race over Cornell in a time of 7:24.9, while its 4B finished second to the Big Red in 8:37.4.
The Tigers will face one of their toughest regular season regattas next weekend when it heads to New Haven for the annual Eisenberg Cup competition against No. 9 Ohio State and No. 10 Yale.
