Baseball Runs Win Streak to Nine With Ivy Sweep at Harvard
April 09, 2011 | Baseball
Game 1 (Box Score)
Princeton picked up a win in the opener thanks to a five-run seventh inning in its final at-bat. Trailing 3-0 entering the final frame, the Tigers rallied with five runs on six hits to pull ahead in the game.
With one out, the Tigers came alive beginning with Mike Ford's double to left. Nate Baird followed with a single through the right side and Princeton was on the scoreboard. Another double by Alex Flink put runners on second and third for Tom Boggiano, who singled up the middle to plate both runs and tie the score.
A walk by Jonathan York and an infield single by Matt Bowman loaded the bases and Princeton scored the go-ahead run and an insurance tally when John Mishu doubled to center field on a ball that Harvard's centerfielder misjudged.
Bowman went the distance on the mound with seven innings pitched. He scattered five hits and struck out seven. Two of his three runs given up were earned.
Game 2 (Box Score)
Princeton broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the seventh inning to defeat Harvard 3-1 in the nightcap as Bowman and Sam Mulroy drove in runs in the inning. Bobby Geren led off the rally with a single and after a sac bunt moved him to second, he scored on Bowman's single to center. Bowman then scored on Mulroy's double.
Princeton and Harvard traded single runs in the third and fourth innings. Princeton went ahead in the third when Bowman led off with a single and later scored on a sac fly from Ford. Harvard answered in the fourth when it scored a run on a wild pitch.
Zak Hermans went the distance on the mound, allowing a single run on five hits over nine innings. He fanned seven and walked three in the win.
