Feldman Advances; Two Miss Out By One on Day 1 of NCAA East Regional

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (5/27/11) - Sophomore Greta Feldman advances to the quarterfinals of the 1500-meter run after her performance on Friday, May 27, the first day of the NCAA East Regional on the campus of Indiana University.
Feldman was 20th overall, clocking in at 4:30.93 to qualify for the quarterfinals, which will be held on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Classmate Alexis Mikaelian ran 4:31.00 to place 30th.
Senior Emma Ruggiero just missed making the top 16 in the first round of the hammer throw. Ruggiero threw to 56.41 (185-01) to finish 17th, one place out of advancing to the semifinals.
Sophomore Tory Worthen also just missed qualifying for the finals in the pole vault. Forty-eight pole vaulters competed with the top 12 advancing to the finals in Iowa. Worthen finished tied for 13th place, clearing 3.85 (12-07.50). She easily made the 3.70 mark on her first try, missed 3.85 on her first try but cleared it on her second.
Senior Sarah Cummings was 19th in the 10,000 at 34:10.42.
Three Tigers will compete in the Regionals tomorrow. Freshman Imani Oliver competes in her first NCAA in the triple jump at 1 p.m. Senior Thanithia Billings also beings competition at 1 p.m., in the shot put. Senior Ashley Higginson will compete in the steeplechase at 8:30 p.m.
