Women's Track & Field Four Points Out of First Place After Day One of Heps

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (5/7/11) - The Princeton women's track & field team sits four points out of first place after day one of the 2011 Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships.
After six events, Brown is in the lead thanks to a double win by Brynn Smith in the throws. Princeton has 44 points. Here is the point breakdown, the advancing qualifiers in parantheses.

Senior Emma Ruggiero threw a new personal best in the hammer throw to finish as the runner up in the event. Her mark of 59.23 (194-4) came on her first throw of the afternoon.
Princeton earned 12 points in the shot put as senior Thanithia Billings was the runner up. She threw a new PR of 15.37 (50-5.25) just 0.27 (0-8.25) shy of the winning mark. Classmate Isabell von Loga took fourth with a throw of 13.99 (45-10.75)
Princeton earned its most points of the day from the pole vault, getting 20 of the 31 possible points. Sophomore Tory Worthen won her fourth Heps pole vault title clearing 3.90 (12-9.50). She has won two indoor and two outdoor titles. The indoor runner up, freshman Samantha Anderson, repeated her second-place finish. Anderson reached a mark of 3.80 (12-5.50). Sophomore Lauren Tauscher placed fifth, clearing 3.60 (11-9.75).
In the final event of the night, the 10,000 senior Sarah Cummings placed fourth at 34:47.78 to give the Tigers four points.
Seniors Bianca Mathabane and Lauren Barber both advanced to the finals of the 100-meter hurdles. Mathabane ran 14.43 and Barber clocked in at 14.49 in the preliminary rounds to make the final eight.Sophomore Joie Hand qualified for the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 1:02.67.
Junior Eileen Moran had the top time in the 100 prelims at 11.80, a new personal best. She was the only runner to sprint in in under 12 seconds, as the next best time was 12.12. Joining her in the final is sophomore Abidemi Adenikinju who ran 12.27 to make the top eight. Moran also qualified for the 200, with the second-best time in the prelims of 24.79.
Running in the finals of the 800 tomorrow is freshman Kacie O'Neil, who ran 2:09.85 in the prelims today.
Sophomores Alexis Mikaelian and Greta Feldman both qualified for the 1500 finals. Mikaelian had the second best time at 4:30.47 while Feldman was fourth at 4:30.71, as the pair will be amongst the final 10 tomorrow.
Other final events the Tigers are competing in tomorrow include: triple jump, high jump, discus, 3k, 5k and all three relays
