June 10, 2011 | Men's Track and Field
DES MOINES, IOWA (6/10/11) - The Princeton men's 4x400 relay finished fifth in heat 2 and 12th overall in the semifinals on Friday, June 10 at the NCAA Track & Field Championships at Drake University.
The race was rescheduled after a storm delay last night, to 11 a.m., local time.
Running in lane four of an eight-lane waterfall, freshman Tom Hopkins had the lead off. The hand off to sophomore Russell Dinkins positioned Princeton third before the runners merged on the inside rail. Dinkins passed off to senior Mike Eddy in fifth place and Eddy would maintain that position running 46.83 on his leg before giving the baton to junior Austin Hollimon on the final leg. Hollimon would keep fifth place, with a split time of 45.98, through the finish line as the Tigers ran 3:06.94.
Texas A&M won the heat at 3:03.48, followed by Baylor at 3:03.69 and Florida at 3:04.43, which all advance to the final.
The 4x400 set an Ivy League and program record twice this season with a 3:07.57 at the Tom Jones Invitational before a 3:05.86 at the NCAA East Regional.
Later tonight, at 7:30 p.m., CT, junior Donn Cabral runs in the steeplechase final. On the women's side, junior Alex Banfich vies for the national title in the 5,000 at 8:10 p.m.
