DES MOINES, IOWA (6/11/11) - Senior Mark Amirault and junior Donn Cabral competed in the men's championship 5000-meter run, the final event for the Tigers at the 2011 NCAA Track & Field Championships at Drake University.
Cabral earned his second top-10 finish of the week, placing eighth with a PR at 13:40.62. He was the runner up in the steeplechase on Friday. Amirault was just four spots back, taking 12th with a time of 13:54.51.

Amirault started the race 19th and dropped back into 22nd after 1400 meters. He slowly started to make his comeback moving up two positions in next 400 meets, and three more positions, 800 meters later to sit 17th after 2600 meters. Like Cabral, Amirault made his big push at 3400 meters moving into 16th with 1200 left, then 14th at the bell lap and into 12th on the final lap around the track.
Sam Chelanga of Liberty won the race at 13:29.30 with Arizona's Lawai Lalang in second at 13:35.71 and Leonard Korir of Iona third at 13:35.71.
The 2011 Heps 5k champion, Amirault boasts a PR of 13:45.69 in the 5k. Cabral leveled his previous PR of 13:46.50. The pair improved on their Regional times by 13.31 for Amirault and 25.55 for Cabral.
Amirault finishes his Princeton career with five individual Heps titles, six Ivy League team titles, two appearances in the NCAA Championships and earned the 2011 Roper Trophy awarded to the Princeton senior male athlete of the year.
Cabral will be back at Old Nassau in three short months when he captains the reigning Ivy League Champion cross country team, coming off of a program-best NCAA finish of 12th.
