2011 Women's Volleyball Schedule
With three in-season tournaments and eight home matches, including both the Ivy League opener and finale, the 2011 Princeton women's volleyball team will be tested early and often as it competes under first-year head coach Sabrina King.
Princeton will open the 2011 season Sept. 2 at the Hofstra Invitational with matches against both Fairfield (11:30 a.m.) and NJIT (4:30 p.m.). Princeton will see St. Francis and host Hofstra the next day, giving the Tigers four early matches to kick off the season.
After a road match against a strong St. John's program Sept. 7, Princeton will make the short trip to New Brunswick, N.J., to compete in the Rutgers Tournament. Competition will open Friday, Sept. 9, against Howard (4:30 p.m.) and will continue Saturday against both Binghamton and Rutgers.
The final tournament of the season will come Sept. 16-17 at the Lehigh/Lafayette Invitational, when Princeton will play Hartford, Lehigh and LaSalle.
The first home match for King as head coach will come Tuesday, Sept. 20, against Seton Hall (7 p.m., Dillon Gym). That will be Princeton's final test before Ivy League play begins, and it will open against the reigning Ivy League champion. Penn travels to Dillon Gym Sept. 23 for a 7 p.m. match; in the 2010 Ivy League opener, Princeton rallied from a 2-0 deficit at The Palestra to win a 3-2 thriller. The Quakers avenged that loss in the season finale, when they saved a match point and ultimately claimed a 3-2 win to clinch a share of the Ivy League title.
Princeton will play three more Ivy League home weekends: Sept. 30-Oct. 1 (Harvard/Dartmouth); Oct. 14-15 (Yale/Brown) and Nov. 11-12 (Cornell/Columbia). The Nov. 12 match against Columbia will be part of Alumni Weekend at Princeton and will be played at 5 p.m.
