Women's Track Places Six on All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS (8/11/11) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the men's 2011 Division I All-Academic Track & Field team. Earning the honors for Princeton are freshman Samantha Anderson, junior Alex Banfich, senior Sarah Cummings, senior Ashley Higginson, senior Emma Ruggiero and sophomore Tory Worthen.
Anderson earns her first USTFCCCA academic honor, ranked 76th nationally in the pole vault, clearing 3.90 meters (12-9.5). Fellow vaulter Worthen ranked 47th in the indoor season reaching 4.00 meters (13-1.5) and finished 13th in the national outdoor semifinal.
Banfich had two indoor marks that qualified her for this honor. She was 40th in the 5k at 16:22.52 and 64th in the 3k at 9:27.60. She earned All-America honors for the second straight outdoor season in the 5k when she finished 20th in the national final with a time of 16:19.17.
Cummings competed in the preliminary round of the NCAAs in the 10k during the outdoor season with a season best time of 34:44.45. She also ranked 47th in the indoor 3k at 9:24.86 and 48th in the 5k at 16:25.83
Higginson was sixth in the national final of the steeplechase to earn All-America honors for the second straight year in the event. She also ranked 38th in the indoor 5k with a time of 16:21.16 and 59th in the indoor mile at 4:45.25.
Ruggiero competed in the preliminary round of the hammer throw during the outdoor season, throwing to 56.41 meters (185-01). Indoors she ranked 61st in the weight throw with a season best mark of 18.48 meters (60-7.75).
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships.
