Women's Volleyball Raises Competition Level Against Big East Rival St. John's
September 07, 2011 | Women's Volleyball
The last time Princeton was in Carnesecca Arena, it was playing an NCAA tournament match following an undefeated run through the 2007 Ivy League season. The Tigers are hopeful for similar magic in 2011, and they will test themselves Wednesday afternoon against St. John's.
Princeton (3-1) is coming off a strong weekend at the Hofstra Invitational, where it won its first three matches before dropping the weekend finale to undefeated Hofsta. St. John's is 4-2 on the season, though both of its losses came last weekend during the Michigan State Spartan Showcase.
Princeton was led last weekend by senior tri-captain Cathryn Quinn, who was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll after recording 31 kills, 14 blocks and 4.50 points per set. One of two first-team All-Ivy League selections last season, her points per set average currently ranks second in the Ivy League. As a team, Princeton leads the league in blocks, aces and digs per set.
St. John's leads the all-time series 9-6 over Princeton and has won six of 10 at home against the Tigers. The Red Storm have also won each of the last five against Princeton, which will face Big East competition next weekend when it heads to the Rutgers Tournament.
