Saturday at the Armory II Features Ivy Flavor for Track & Field

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/26/12) - The Princeton track & field teams will get its first taste of Ivy competition when they compete at the Saturday Night at the Armory II meet on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Columbia, Cornell and Harvard will also bring its teams to the 14-team meet that will also feature Army, Cheyney, Delaware State, Georgian Court, Holy Family, Lehman, Maryland, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Morgan State and Staten Island.
The meet begins at 6:15 p.m., with the women's shot put and pole vault; while the track events begin at 6:30 p.m., with the women's 60-meter dash.
The Tiger men won the meet last year, edging Cornell by more than four points. Senior Austin Hollimon captured the Outstanding Athlete of the Meet after winning the 400 in a Princeton record time of 46.47, the fourth fastest in the NCAA and fifth fastest in the word. Hollimon helped to set another Princeton record as a member of the 4x400 relay. Russell Dinkins won the 500 with Mike Eddy '11 in second. Senior Dave Slovenski won the pole vault, Dion Lehman '11 won the long jump, sophomore Damon McLean won the triple jump, Craig Pearce '11 earned victory in the weight throw. Junior Richard Sheldon was the runner up in the 60-meter hurdles. Seventeen of the Tigers' points came in the 3k, as runners finished 3-4-5-7.
Princeton's women's team took second-place at the meet last year with 149 points, 10.5 points out of first place. Senior Eileen Moran won the 400, and Thanitha Billings '11 won both the shot put and the weight throw. The Tigers earned 21 points in the pole vault, after Samantha Anderson and Tory Worthen tied for second. The 2-4-6 finishes in the 3k gave Princeton 16 points, while 10 points came in the 800 with sophomore Kristin Smoot third. Juniors Alexis Mikaelian and Mel Newbery collected 10 points in the mile. Both the 4x800 and 4x400 relays took second.
