Sharkey Named Ivy Field Hockey Player of the Week

Behind a pair of game-winning goals, Princeton field hockey striker Kathleen Sharkey was named Ivy League Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. Sharkey earns her third weekly honor of the year and eighth of her career.
The senior tri-captain opened the Tigers' weekend action by helping Princeton claim at least a share of the Ivy title, marking its eighth consecutive championship and 17th over an 18-year span. In the eighth minute on a penalty corner opportunity, Sharkey received the ball from Julia Reinprecht and Sydney Kirby to put the game away. Princeton would eventually hand the Big Red a 5-0 shutout loss.
The following afternoon at then-No. 7 Virginia, Princeton took a first half 1-0 lead, before the Cavaliers squared things up in the second half. Similar to Saturday's goal, the Tigers were in the UVA circle and awarded a penalty corner. After a series of blocked shots, Reinprecht found an open Sharkey to send in the game-winner in the 58th minute.
Sharkey maintains her stance as the nation's goals and points per game leader, bringing her season total to 25 goals, including seven game-winners, and 56 points.
No. 2 Princeton (15-1, 6-0 Ivy) will have the opportunity to win the outright Ivy title this Saturday, Nov. 3 with a win over Penn. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bedford Field.
