PRINCETON, N.J. (11/1/12) - The Princeton women's hockey team makes the trip to Central New York this weekend for a pair of league games at second-ranked Cornell and Colgate. The Tigers are 2-2 on the young season and hit the road in search of their first league win of the season.
Princeton opened the season with a pair of non-league wins on the road at RIT and Robert Morris, but fell twice last weekend at home to Dartmouth and ninth-ranked Harvard. On Friday the Tigers were edged 3-1 by the Big Green at Baker Rink. Alex Kinney had the Tigers lone goal, as she cut a two-goal lead in half on the power play late in the second period, but the Tigers would get no closer. A day later Kelly Cooke tallied Princeton's lone goal in a 9-1 loss to the Crimson. Kimberly Newell made 62 combined saves in the two games.
Cooke and Corey Stearns, who had an assist on Friday, each have five points to lead the Tigers. Cooke has a team-high three goals, while Stearns' four assists are the most. Nine Tigers have recorded points this season.
Princeton will look to regroup on Friday at Cornell. The Big Red is 4-1 overall and one of four teams that are 2-0 in the ECAC. Cornell comes into the game winners of three straight games after a spot at Boston University to open the season. Cornell topped Brown and Yale last weekend in league play. Brianne Jenner leads the team with seven points and Emily Fulton has a team-high three goals.
Princeton leads the all-time series with Cornell 40-27-3 and is 16-14 in games played at Lynah Rink in Ithaca. The Big Red though carries a six-game win streak and a seven-game unbeaten streak against the Tigers into the contest. The teams last met in January when Cornell posted a 1-0 win at home.
Princeton concludes the weekend on Saturday in Hamilton against Colgate. The Raiders are 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the ECAC. Colgate was swept by Brown and Yale last weekend and outscored 7-1 in the two games. The Raiders two wins came in a home series over Connecticut. Colgate also has losses to Minnesota, Northeastern and New Hampshire. Jenna Klynstra leads the team with five points.
Princeton is 21-6-2 all-time against Colgate and holds a 9-3-1 edge in games played at Starr Rink. Princeton and Colgate have split their games in each of the last four seasons. In the 2011-12 campaign the Tigers lost 6-4 at home but won 5-3 on the road.
