PRINCETON, N.J. (11/29/12) - The Princeton women's hockey team returns to the ECAC Hockey schedule, hosting Union and Rensselaer this weekend. The Tigers face Union on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m., and RPI on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m.
Eye on the TigersPrinceton is coming off of a split with No. 8 Ohio State. The Tigers lost a 2-0 lead in game 1, to lose 4-2 but went on to win game 2, 2-1. Princeton is 4-6-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the ECAC. Senior Corey Stearns leads the team in scoring with 14 points, getting 13 assists and scoring one goal. Classmate Kelly Cooke has a team-high six goals and two assists for eight points. Junior Sally Butler also has eight points on five goals and three assists. Senior Alex Kinney and sophomore Brianna Leahy contribute seven points apiece. Freshman Kimberly Newell has started in goal in all 12 games. She has a .906 save percentage and a 3.41 goals against average.
Princeton vs. Union
The Tigers are unbeaten in the series with Union. Princeton had an 18-game win streak end in Schnectady last month when the teams played to a 1-1 tie.
Scouting the Dutchwomen
Union resumed action on Sunday after a 15-day break. The team posted a 4-0 loss at Providence, ending a three-game unbeaten streak. The Dutchwomen are 3-6-2 overall and are 0-2-2 in the league. Union is averaging 1.64 goals per game and allows 3.36 gpg. Freshman Jessica Kaminsky has two goals and five assists for seven points. Sophomore Christine Valente, freshman Courtney Turner and junior Stefanie Thomson have six points apiece. Sophomore Shenae Lundberg has started in goal in eight games and has a .911 save percentage and a 2.64 GAA. Senior Alana Marcinko has also seen time in goal, playing in four games and recording an .864 save percentage and a 4.82 GAA.
Princeton vs. Rensselaer
Princeton leads the series with RPI, 8-4-3 and are undefeated in the last seven meetings with four wins and three ties. The Tigers won a 6-5 game last month in Troy.
Scouting the Engineers
Rensselaer is 2-10-2 on the season, most recently dropping a pair of games at Syracuse. The Engineers are winless in the league at 0-4. The squad averages 2.29 gpg and is allowing an average of 3.21 gpg. Like Union, a freshman leads RPI in scoring. Alexa Gruschow has 13 points on eight goals and five assists to rank second in the league in freshman scoring. Senior Taylor Horton and junior Jordan Smelker have both scored four goals and five assists for nine points. Sophomore Eleeza Cox chips in eight points off of five goals and three assists. Sophomore Kelly O'Brien has started in goal in 10 games and has an .889 save percentage and a 2.76 GAA. Classmate Brianna Piper has made four starts and has an .841 save percentage and a 4.15 GAA.
