PRINCETON, N.J. (12/30/12) - The Princeton women's hockey team returns for the second half of the 2012-13 season when it travels to Connecticut to play a New Year's series against the Huskies. Games will be Wednesday, Jan. 2 and Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m., both days.
Eye on the Tigers
Princeton looks to get back on track after closing out the first half of the season with three straight losses. The Tigers are 5-9-2 overall. Senior Corey Stearns is the team's leading scorer with 18 points on 16 assists and two goals. Classmate Kelly Cooke is the leading goal scorer with 10 goals and three assists for 13 points. The Tigers will look to sophomore Ashley Holt to protect the goal. Holt has played in two games this season and has allowed one goal on seven shots.
Scouting the Huskies
The Huskies are looking to snap a 10-game winless streak as they enter the series with a 2-14-2 overall record. UConn defeated Maine and Syracuse and tied ECAC teams St. Lawrence and RPI. The team was blanked twice by Vermont the last time out, Dec. 1 & 2 by 3-0 and 2-0 scores. Freshman Michaela Cava and senior Kelly Horan lead the team offensively. Cava has six goals and six assists for 12 points, while Horan has a team-high seven helpers and three goals for 10 points. Sophomore Rachel Farrel and Emily Snodgrass chip in eight points each and 10 other skates have three or more points. The Huskies have used two goalies, freshman Elaine Chuli and junior Sarah Moses. The Series
Princeton leads the series with UConn 8-1-2. UConn is actually the oldest DI opponent as the teams met in game three of the first season of Princeton women's hockey in 1979. Prior to that game, Princeton defeated Penn and Wesleyan. The Tigers won that opening series opener 6-0 and won the seven straight. Since 2008 the teams are even at 1-1-2, splitting the last series in Oct. 2008 with UConn winning 3-0 and Princeton winning 4-1.
