The Princeton wrestling team will compete in a pair of Garden State dual matches this weekend, including its 2012-13 home opener Friday night against No. 18 Binghamton.
The last time Princeton wrestled at home, it was during the 2012 EIWA Championships, held in Jadwin Gymnasium. This weekend, the Tigers will return to their traditional home venue of Dillon Gym, although it will still be a first for potentially half of the Tigers' starting lineup.
One week after starting six freshmen at Rider, Princeton is likely to start five this weekend against both Binghamton and Rutgers, who will host Princeton Saturday at 7. Included in that freshman group is team wins leader Scott Gibbons, who recorded a third-period pin over Rider's Clint Morrison and was the only Princeton wrestler to place at both the Binghamton Open and the Keystone Open. Classmate Max Rogers also earned a victory last weekend, turning an early deficit into a technical fall.
Heavyweight Cole Lampman made his collegiate debut last weekend, and junior co-captain Dan Santoro (197) is hoping to make his season debut this weekend.
Binghamton is currently ranked 18th in the latest Intermat national poll, and it has two wrestlers ranked within the top six. Senior Donnie Vinson is ranked third nationally at 149, while senior Nate Schiedel is ranked sixth at 197.
Rutgers has three wrestlers ranked in the Top 15, including senior Scott Winston, who is ranked ninth at 157. Fellow senior Greg Zannetti is just outside the Top 10; he is currently 11th at 174.
