February 19, 2012 | Women's Water Polo
The No. 19 Princeton women's water polo team posted a perfect 4-0 record at the Bucknell Invitational with wins over Gannon, 13-8, and Siena, 14-5, Sunday in Lewisburg, Pa. With the victories, the Tigers extend their season-opening winning streak to 8-0.
Princeton saw major contributions from its newcomers in both games, as freshmen Kelly Gross and Ashley Hatcher both tallied five goals apiece, while attacker CeCe Coffey had three goals and two assists on the day.
Senior Katlin Poladian took over goalie duties in the cage for the Tigers in both games, amassing 17 saves in eight quarters of work.
Princeton opened up day two action at the tournament with Gannon, who jumped out to a 3-2 lead on the Tigers in the first quarter. The Golden Knights' lead was short lived, as Princeton responded with a 6-2 rally in the second quarter. The Tigers went on to outscore Gannon 5-3 to conclude the contest.
The Princeton defense maintained its strong line versus Siena in the final game of the weekend. In addition to making 13 steals, the squad was able to jump out early and never look back. The Tigers took a 9-1 advantage after the first two quarters of action, creating too large of a deficit for Saints to rebound from. Princeton wrapped up the game outscoring Siena 5-4 to earn a 14-5 victory.
Hatcher had a game-high four goals in the game, while Gross added three steals and three assists.
Princeton returns home to host Bucknell next on Friday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. in DeNunzio Pool.
