February 05, 2012 | Men's Track and Field
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (2/4/12) - Junior Peter Callahan ran a 3:58.86 mile at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup at Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 4 as the Princeton men's track & field team finished third.
Callahan's time is the eighth best time in the nation in the mile and a Sykes & Sabock meet record. He is the second Tiger in program history to run a sub-4 minute mile, joining Bill Burke '91 who ran a 3:58.70 in 1991 to win the Millrose Games. Callahan is just the third Ivy League runner in history to break the four-minute indoor mile. Callahan's previous PR was 4:01.03, which he ran last year, and ranked fourth all-time at Princeton. (see video below)
The Tigers weren't done yet in the mile, however. Senior Joe Stilin, who set a program record last weekend in the 3k, placed third in the mile with a PR of 4:02.10. Sophomore Damon McLean got points for Princeton in two events. He was the runner up in the triple jump with a mark of 15.00 meters. He was one of just two athletes to reach 15 meters.
