Princeton Caps Winning Home Weekend With 9-0 Sweep Of Brown
February 05, 2012 | Women's Squash
The Princeton women's squash team kept its hopes for a winning Ivy League season alive with a 9-0 sweep of Brown Sunday afternoon at Jadwin Gym. Princeton won all 27 games against the Bears to move to 6-3 overall.
Princeton bounced back from a hard-fought loss to Yale Saturday afternoon by taking control of the Bears from the start. The Tigers went 4-0 in the first shift, including a dominant effort by freshman Hallie Dewey at the No. 6 spot. Dewey dropped only 10 points in her 3-0 win over Lydia Smith.
Sophomore Libby Eyre, who won her match against Yale yesterday, fought hard in the final two games of a 3-0 win at the No. 2 position.
In the second shift, Princeton got five more victories to finish the match. Sophomore Caroline Feeley moved into the lineup with a 3-0 win over Kyla Harrington at the No. 9 position. Freshman Nicole Bunyan won at the No. 3 spot, while Casey Cortes lost only eight points in a win at No. 7.
Sophomore Alex Sawin, who also scored a victory against Yale, topped Katherine Elliott-Moskwa 3-0 at No. 5, while junior Julie Cerullo, who nearly knocked off the reigning national champion Saturday, scored a win over Dori Rahbar.
Princeton will play three more matches next weekend, including two at home. The Tigers host Cornell Friday night, and they will take on Trinity in a rematch of the 2011 Howe Cup third-place match. Princeton won that match 5-4 to move up two spots in the final rankings.
